BONES & GLITTER
Writing Structure and Dialogue
Three Tuesdays in January
12th, 19th, 26th @ 5-7pm PST
A three-part workshop series created to unveil the mystery behind two of the most important elements of any story-
structure (the bones) and dialogue (the glitter).
Session One
Structure is Sexy
We’re going to start by breaking down the elements of structure so we can give bones to any piece of writing. How to build a story that can stand on its own, no matter the genre, is an often elusive and yet incredibly crucial part of the writing process. Knowing how to tackle structure can cure writer's block, induce creativity, and provide a sense of security.
Session Two
Dialogue is Glitter
Dialogue is the glitter of your story and the glue to your structure. Building upon session one, here we will learn the ins and outs of writing believable dialogue. Good dialogue will help you develop your characters, build your plot, and keep your readers engaged. We'll look to screenwriting to understand how dialogue is used to tell a story.
Session Three
A Glittery Skeleton
Bringing it all together! We have bones, we have glue and glitter… but what goes in between them? Here we will talk about the heart of the story like characters, theme, lessons, and how to build scenes. We often get so caught up in how something works that we forget all the fun stuff that what goes into it. You’ll leave with a clear path to a new story!
