Energy, Escalation, and Revelation: How to Write a Story that Captivates, Compels, and Inspires
April Writing Workshop with Alan Heathcock
This workshop has already taken place, you will receive a recording of this session.
There are many different ways to objectively break down tenets of quality of writing and/or storytelling, but the most fundamental, for me, are the concepts of energy, escalation, and revelation. In this class we’ll explore how to define these terms for an individual writer and project, non-fiction, fiction, of poetry, and take on exercises to put the concepts into practice. Writers of all levels and genres are welcome.
Alan Heathcock is the author of the short story collection, VOLT (Graywolf Press), and the novel, 40 (MCD X FSG). He’s won a Whiting Award, a National Magazine Award, was a finalist for the Barnes and Noble Discover Award, has been awarded fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Bread Loaf Writers Conference, and Sewanee Writers Conference, the Lannan Foundation, and the Idaho Commission for the Arts. He teaches in the MFA program at UNR-Tahoe.
