The Braided Essay

$35.00

Online Saturday March, 19th @10am PST

Weaving together unlikely strands in writing –memories, topics, found language–is a wildly popular form of personal writing for good reason. There is tension that glues a reader to the page when they encounter unique combinations aligned into the braided essay. By examining the form’s history, and its literary cousins (like found poetry, collaging, and conceptual writing) this workshop will generate a list of braiding techniques that will show you how easy yet powerful the “braid” can be to generate works that really sing. All levels welcome!

About the Instructor: Poet and essayist Katie Fuller holds an MA and MFA in writing. Originally from Maine, her published chapbooks defy genre, calling upon elements of fiction, poetry and personal essay in their creation. She relishes sharing the history of writing techniques to deepen understanding for writers, and has taught creative writing successfully to nearly every age level, from school age to professional writers. She previously ran Boise’s chapter of Writers in the Schools as well and currently teaches writing for Boise State University.
